Spacey Ambient Mix Download - PsyAmb 27

Greetings. Good to be back !

I have another chilled out psychedelic ambient spacey mix for you all today. This one kicks off with a tune from Australia's "Hesius Dome" from their 2002 debut CD "The Age of Steam" on "Psy-Harmonics". As far as spacey soundscapes go , Hesius Dome's debut was a blinder. A truly artistic endeavor. I also recommend checking out "Ornament" , another ambient group with the H.D members involved.

Next up is "Sync24" with the tune mBorg from 2007's "Source" CD on "Ultimae Records". Sync24 is "Daniel Ringstrom" , one half of ambient giants "Carbon Based Lifeforms". Daniel is currently at work on a new Sync24 CD which promises to be a bit more uptempo than "Source". Whatever the tempo, I'm sure it will be as polished and moving as always.

Following on from Daniel we have "Astropilot" with "Life Lines". "
Dmitry Red'ko" formed "Astropilot" back in 2006 and has released two CDs including last week's "Solar Walk" which I'm looking forward to picking up. You can hear the entire CD as a mix on soundclound. Simply click HERE. Dmitry is a big fan of the likes of "Robert Rich" and "Alio Die""Altar Records".

"Carbon Based Lifeforms" have been producing some of the finest psychedelic ambient music over the last ten years. The duo built a reputation for themselves early on with a number of excellent compilation appearances on "Ultimae Records". I think it was possibly the track "MOS 6581" on the third "Farenheit Project" compilation that bought them the most attention early on. This was quickly followed up with their stunning debut CD "Hydroponic Garden" in 2003 and from their it has been onwards and upwards. Look out for their next release titled "Interloper" which should hit stores in the next few weeks. Check out Ultimae's website for some online samples to wet your appetite until then.

Following that we have yet another Ultimae artist in the form of Norway's "Circular". This tune comes from last year's "Sunstans" CD. Before their move to Ultimae , Circular had a number of releases through Norwegian label "Origo Sound". Follow this link to an Origo interview with "Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik", one half of Circular talking about thier 2004 release "Glass Darkly".

"I Awake" ( Thomas Huttenlocher ) has one CD to his credit , "The Core" , and a mighty fine one it is at that. Thomas' music is deeply emotional and carries a haunting , ghostly presence. Quite fitting really seeing as he is also a member of the group "Ghostfriend".

Next we have "Zero Cult" with a track from the massive "Dreams in Stereo" CD of 2009. I have featured Zero Cult a number of times in past mixes so I wont go into too much detail this time around. Suffice to say you should definately check out some of his work by visiting the "Cosmic Leaf" records website where you can also find the likes of Cydelix, Side Liner, The Omm Squad and Terra Nine.

"Aes Dana" needs no introduction to fans of psychedelic ambient music. "Vincent Villius" long ago established the Aes Dana name as an outlet for his endless creativity. Electronic activist since teenagehood, he was also one of the founding members of "Asura". Bass player and singer in several coldwave and industrial bands, he then moved on to composing with machines. He brings a fusion between the British Progressive feel and the traditional American Space Music; with sounds anchored in the psychedelic realm freely flowing into a morning downtempo trance, tribal or smashed rhythms. So far he has produced 4 solo albums, contributed to about 3 dozen compilations and collaborated on two albums with Swedish artist "Magnus Birgersson" under moniker "H.U.V.A Network". His next album "Perimeters" is to be released sometime in 2010. In 2009, Vincent composed soundtracks for Science Fiction movie "The Passport" (Amund Lie) and "Atrophy Bank" (Sam Asaert). In June 2009 he released his latest album "Leylines" which received excellent feedback worldwide. The album was ranked top 10 sales electronic music on Itunes USA and Top 5 on emusic. This tune , "Pulse Rate", can be found on the "Vital Signs" compilation released by "Celestial Dragon Records" last month.

Next we have a short psy-vocal interlude by "Scann-Tec" before we get into "CJ Catalizer" and his track "2012" from the "Earth" compilation on "Altar Records". DJ Zen , producer of the "Air,Water,Fire and Earth compilation" series has been an tireless champion of psychedelic ambient music for many years now. "CJ Catalizer" is the moniker of Russian Producer "Dimitriy Neschadim". Check out last year's CD "Quid Est Veritas" where he teams up with "Chronos" for a fabulous ambient journey full of complex melodies and superb production. Here is a link to an interview with the two lads talking about the production of the CD.

After that we have a new tune from a amazing new album by "Scann-Tec" (Vladislav Isaev) . "Facial Memories" is the debut release by Scann-Tec and I suspect it has been much anticipated by many a psychedelic ambient music fan. In 2002 he started writing trance music and was invited to play it at some parties in 2002 and 2003. In 2004, after buying some additional equipment, he started writing ambient and chill-out music. Four months later, he had released his first EP entitled "Visiting Sky" on the "Kahvi Collective" net-label. This was followed by another EP entitled "Collaps" on Acedia Music a few months later. His favourite instrument is his digital dictaphone . He loves to record people's voices, especially the voices of unusual people.

This brings another dimension and atmosphere to his music. He is also obsessed with fat basslines, atmospheric pads and psychedelic sequences that take listeners to other dimensions of sound. He loves to transfer the visual atmosphere into the aural. One listen of "Facial Memories" and you'll understand what the fuss is all about. Already riding high on global chillout charts , "Facial Memories" is a awesome release jam packed with tight, twisty basslines, fresh percussive effects and spacey atmospheric progressive elements. Check it out at the "Celestial Dragon Records" website.

Remember "Sunkings" ? Back in the 1990's Sunkings were somewhat something of a regular feature on the psychedelic ambient scene culminating in 1998's "Soul Sleeping" CD with its cool jacket design. Well, after more than a decade in the wilderness they are back ! This tune comes from their new CD "Before We Die" out on "Chill Tribe Records". A great album it is too. Original Sunkings member "Taz Alexander" ( Juno Reactor ) is back to provide the vocal background of the group around which they produce an exotic mix of polished electronica. Highly recommended .

Finally today we have a project by Australian artist "Richard Rutter" a.k.a "Dark Nebula" , "Lunar Orbit". In 1998 Richard climbed back into his "Orbit Constructions" spaceship to release a mighty fine CD of dark ambient soundscape titled "Androneda". Great stuff.

That's about it for this week. As always thanks for visiting - much appreciated ! Next mix planned is the PsyAmb listeners mix. If you have any original tunes you would like promoted here on PsyAmb then mail them to me as soon as possible.

Cheers ...

Spacey Ambient Mix Download - PsyAmb 17

Greetings. Spent a wet afternoon watching U.F.O documentaries online so I thought it might be time for another spacey mix. By the way, if anyone is interested in the U.F.O debate I recommend the film "UFO: The Greatest Story Ever Denied". Can't say that I agree with everything the author says however it is a pretty entertaining presentation.

Today we kick off with a tune from "I Awake". This is taken from his ( Thomas Huttenlocher ) album "The Core" on "Ultimae Records". I highly recommend this release - very solid with the usual high production values one would expect from Ultimae. Thomas is also a current member of the "Ghostfriend" project.

Next up is "James Murray" with "Invisible People". This tune comes from James' excellent "Where Edges Meet" CD released around the start of 2009. Previously released on em:t, psychonavigation and part2 records, he is now part of the Ultimae roster and works in London as a freelance composer and producer.

Side LinerFollowing on from James we have "Side Liner" with "Haunted Thoughts". I have featured a few Side Liner tracks in past mixes. Check out his latest CD called "Crying Cities" on "Cosmicleaf Records". Really fantastic stuff. Cosmicleaf have been steadily building up a catalog of quality releases to rival that of Ultimae. With artists like Side Liner, Zero Cult and Easily Embarrassed on the books the future looks bright for the label.

Harax is an artist I focused on back in episode 9. Denis Botsvin , the man behind the Harax mask , has come up with an awesome CD titled "Inly". The CD topped chillout charts on various online record distribution services for a number of weeks after release. This track , Freckles , has that nice kind of twisty bass that I just love to hear.

Next is "Marhine" with the track "Spathe". Marhiane (Sandrine Gryson) is co-founder / manager of Ultimae records. This is a sweet, short beatless tune from the "Oxycanta : Winter Blooms" compilation Sandrine produced back in 2007.

Following that we have a wicked tune from "Zero Cult" titled "Broken Hope". This has a nice full , lush sound that really fills your speakers to the top. Reminds me a bit of Abakus or tunes from the old Liquid Sound Design compilations. However there is also something new and fresh about it. It all makes for a nop notch tune that I could listen to again and again. This tune is off the "Nova Natura 3" compilation which is chock-full of quality tunes.

Solar FieldsThe next artist needs no big introduction. "Solar Fields" ( Magnus Birgersson ) has been one of the leading artists in the psychedelic ambient music scene since his debut CD "Reflective Frequencies" back in 2001. With a large dedicated fan base behind him , Magnuss has been consistently producing distinctive, classic deep space sounds that improve with each release . This year saw the release of his sixth studio albumn "Movements". With over 50 compilation appearances, worldwide touring , studio production work and game soundtrack scoring he remains one of the busiest musicians you are likely to hear on PsyAmb.

DJ Zen's "Water" compilation is home to the next tune , "Creation Of Tefnet" by "RA". Water is a pretty good compilation , perhaps not as solid as the "Fire" compilation that came out last month but has a few good tunes on it.

Next we have "Togerther We Are ..." from Polish group "Sundial Aeon" . A four man team, Sundial have had releases on a number of labels as well as doing work for various TV and online media outlets. It is also home to "Scann-Tec" who I had featured here back in episode 4.

Zero Cult is back once again , this time teaming up with Serbian "Kanc Cover" to produce "Green Grass Spirit". With it's old-school goa vibe throughout, this tune is a nice piece of retro ambient trance. From the June 2009 release "Mahayama 5 years".

The last tune before we chill things out a bit is "H.U.V.A Nework" ( Solar Fields+ Aes Dana ) with "Something Heavens". This tune has a long slow build up into some nice cosmic guitar riffs towards the end that really whack you in the face. Take care not to be dozing off too much by the time this tune comes around. I really appreciate what the guys are doing with the HUVA project. You can definitely hear each of their individual styles in each track. Check out their latest CD "Ephemeis" for a real galactic shakedown.

Finally we land back to earth with the help of "Elysium" and "Liquid Stranger". I haven't heard anything new from ELysium in ages. This tune is from 1995 actually. Back then (1995-2000) Elysium was producing quite a lot of tunes and also released the classic “Dance for the Celestial Beings” album which was a world wide hit. Liquid Stranger has a new CD out called "The Intergalactic Slapstick" which I am yet to hear but from what I have read it sounds very tasty indeed. This tune is from his previous CD titled "The Invisible Conquest" released through "Interchill Records".

Well that's it for this week. Next week I am planning on a Simon Posford retrospective in honour of the release of the fourth Shpongle CD. So if you feel like getting shpongled then tune in next time.

Cheers ...

James Watts Kilowatts download tour liveWelcome back to PsyAmb. This week I have a spacey ambient mix for you all. Lots of deep pads, driving bass and ethereal atmospheres. There is even a track I did myself in there somewhere !! One artist who I really should have featured much earlier in my mixes is Kilowatts ( aka James Watts ). You can hear one of his tunes in today's mix but I highly recommend checking out some of his CD's. Excellent stuff.

don't have a lot of info on him but I do remember picking up my first Kilowatts album , "Ground State", a few years ago in 2007 and being instantly hooked. This led me to getting hold of a few older EP's. A new CD is now available called "Undercurrent". Released in August of this year it is limited to a 777 copies worldwide so I'm not sure of the current availability. Anyway, grab it if you can as it's an excellent interpretation of the ways melodies can evolve. Or, in KW's own words:

"From a larger perspective, I felt that the search for these melodies was similar to unearthing subconscious archetypes that drive reality"

Right on ! So Lets get on with today's mix. Enjoy the tunes and as always feel free to get back to me with any comments, requests etc.

Cheers...

Spacey Ambient Mix Download - PsyAmb 9

raja ram download live tourHello everyone. This week's mix takes a bath in some spacey ambient vibes. I've included some up to date releases as well as one or two classics such as Spacedrifters 'Eb' of TipWorld's "Twelve" compilation from 2001. Wow - that long ago already ! Despite being mostly known for their pioneering dance floor tunes, TipWorld and label head Raja Ram put out some brilliant ambient tunes back around then.

Today's highlighted artist is the Ukraine's Denis Botsvin, a.k.a Harax whose 2008 release titled 'Inly' made an immediate impression on me from the first listen. I would describe it as very melodic without getting too cheesy, nice use of full lush pads, subtle bass and emotive rendering. Think Ultimae records with a bit of a fresh twist. Released on the Australian Up Records label, I definitely recommend picking up a copy for yourself.

Check out this video of Harax at Skygravity. Skygravity is a Ukranian electronic music festival that has been gaining in popularity over the last few years. Never been there myself but it looks very nice. As psytrance and psychedelic ambient music continues to boom in the Baltic expect parties like this one to gain momentum and brilliant artists like Harax to filter to the surface.

Spacey Ambient Mix Download - PsyAmb 4

This week's episode highlights some of the more spacey ambient psychedelic music that's been on rotation around here for the last few weeks. This mix is somewhat of a tribute to French label Ultimae Records and their roster of groundbreaking sonic engineers. Perhaps most noted for their Fahrenheit Project series , Ultimae Records have consistently produced top quality psychedelic ambient music since around early 2000. I remember buying the first Fahrenheit Project CD ( there are about 6 now ) and thinking this is a change in style for the ambient psychedelic scene . Suddenly the music became less trippy and more structured , haunting and emotional. The subsequent releases I listened to did not disappoint either and I quickly became a big fan of all things Ultimae.

aes dana download liveI especially recommend Aes Dana who is featured in today's ambient mix. Aes Dana , a.k.a Vincent Villuis is one of the label heads at Ultimae and is also involved in the production side of a number of Ultimae's artists. His music is ambient, psychedelic, etheral and panoramic on a scale that really sets him apart. His latest albumn , Leylines is another step forward in the evolution of the Ultimae sound.

Check out this fan produced video of Aes Dana's song "Signs" :

Well that's about it for today. It's so hot hear today I think I'll go pour a cold bath throw on the Leylines CD and chill riiiiiigggghhhht out. Enjoy today's mix and let me know if there is anything you would like to hear in the future episodes. Cheers ....
